How much does it cost?

The cost of a mural depends on a number of factors: the theme being painted, the size of the room and ceiling height and type. Please contact me with the details of the room(s) you'd like to have painted, and I will be able to give you an accurate estimate of the cost.

How long does it take to paint a mural?

The time required to paint a ceiling mural depends on the size of the room being painted, the theme being rendered, and the type of ceiling you have. Larger rooms and more complicated themes require more time. Flat or lightly textured ceilings are the easiest on which to work, and thus require less time. I can also paint the stars on acoustic or "popcorn" ceilings, which is more difficult and time-consuming. It may not be workable to render some features, such as shooting stars, on such highly textured ceilings.

Generally, most work can be completed in 4 to 8 hours, in a single visit. Once the painting is complete, you can begin using the room immediately. The paint dries in an hour or so, and is completely odorless - there are no paint fumes and no smell.

What kind of room preparation is required?

Very little! I ask that prior to my arrival for a job appointment, the customer run a dust mop over the ceiling to remove dust and any cobwebs that may be present. As long as I have ample room to move a step ladder around, moving furniture is not required in most cases. I provide drop cloths to be used when necessary, to cover beds and other furniture. Also, valuables, breakable items and anything you need in the room while I am there must be removed. See the next question below.

How do you do that? Can I watch?

No, I'm sorry, you can't watch. The painting technique I use is proprietary and a trade secret, so I require absolute privacy while I work. Once I enter a room to begin painting, you will not have access to that room until the mural is complete. For that reason, you must remove any items you need, or may need, while I am painting. Also, I require that all valuables and breakable items be removed before I begin work. You will be required to sign a consent form stating that all such items have been removed from the room before I begin painting.

Will I see the stars on my ceiling in daylight?

The paint I use dries to a translucent, milky off-white color. On the majority of ceilings, white or beige, the stars will be completely invisible during the day. Someone not knowing I'd painted a mural on the ceiling would never know it was there if they never saw the room in the dark.

On ceilings painted a medium color, such as medium blue or darker tan, you would be able to see them if you looked for them, but they wouldn't be eye-catching. The stars would be visible on ceilings painted a dark color. If the ceiling on which you're considering having a mural painted is dark, you'll have to decide whether that's OK or not.

Are you available outside of the Tahoe area?

Yes, I am willing to consider traveling anywhere. For out-of-state jobs requiring air travel and lodging, all travel expenses must be paid by the customer. For jobs close enough that air travel is not required, mileage charges my apply depending on the size of the job and driving distance.
